Family Matters
This post is published as an entry for the KING AND QUEEN OF 55F CONTEST – The first ever unique, challenge for the coveted title in micro fiction category. To catch the crowning moments and also be part of future editions and other contests, visit and register at Cafe GingerChai
The challenge is to write a set of three 55F, where the first two sets should be a story on its own and the two stories should climax / conclude / inter-twine in the third set of 55F
HER KID BROTHER
Nidhi hugged her kid brother tightly and cried.
The doctor had finally declared him out of danger. The few bruises left would heal soon.
“Didi, Don’t worry. I will love you more than Baba and Ma.”
“You are my sole reason to live.”
She had finished the last rites of their parents that day.
THE ONLY FAMILY
She signed the divorce papers with an iron will. She finally drew an end to 20 years of unhappiness.
“Have you come to live with us?”
“You are my only family.”
“There is hardly any spare room!”
“Arun! This is my house, too.”
“No, you signed it in my name last year, without checking the papers.”
REASON TO LIVE
She had lost count of the number of times she had come to court. Today she would finally get justice.
“Next matter is Nidhi Roy versus Arun Sen.”
The Judge noticed the frail old woman, suddenly falling down, clutching her heart.
She could bear the battle no more. She still loved her kid brother.
This is my second entry for the contest. The idea came to me when I published the first entry and was returning home from office. The title is borrowed from a book by Rohinton Mistry with the same name, which is a poignant tale of a brother-sister duo (and is completely different from what I have written here). One of my most favourite books and a must-read for all.
Tells me two things: you really are an awesome narrator of stories, and you (like most lawyers) really are in love with the courtroom 😀
I am in love with the drama that happens inside the court room sometimes 🙂
This could happen to anyone….
While reading the second part, I had a inkling of the end.
Well narrated once again, Debosmita! 🙂
Thank you Rumya! Perceptive and intelligent readers like you makes things difficult for me 😦
Loved this Debs, this was even better than your other entry.
Thanks, Pal! Even I think so 😉
Is this a rue story ? Right out of some old archives? Very nicely done. Good stuff .
Cheers
GB
After a long time, GB 🙂 Thanks a ton; your appreciation means a lot 🙂
You hit the nail on the head in both stories..Try changing the order next time. With more parts..
Thank you 🙂 I had a set format to follow because of the contest rules. I will surely try new forms next time 🙂
This sounds almost real. I love your blog you know.
Btw, on a compltely unrelated note, thanks for the kind words on my 100th post. Can’t comment over there as my university has decided to block any link with the word ‘songs’ in it 😦
Paushali! thanks dear 🙂 Love you and your blog too 🙂

Maybe, quite quiet quotidian affairs immersed in the nectar of simplicity can bring out some stark sparks of immaculate narration incorporated in a wonderfully weaved story. Now, is that ‘maybe’ justified at the beginning of my sentence; I do not know!
Welcome, Sayak! Now I would really want you to find it out for yourself and let me know 🙂
